About Deliberate Injustice The Book

Deliberate Injustice is the true story about the wrongful conviction of Kenny Wyniemko.

In 1994, Kenny was wrongfully convicted of a savage rape and sentenced to 40 years in prison. In 2003, with the help of the Michigan Innocence Project, he was exonerated and released after nearly nine years of incarceration.

Deliberate Injustice covers Kenny's arrest, conviction, and incarceration, the events leading to his release, and his inspiring work as a spokesperson for the wrongfully convicted.

Deliberate Injustice is in narrative form with interviews, trial transcripts, depositions, police reports, and witness statements interspersed throughout. But what sets this book apart is Kenny's thoughts as he faces every lie and every indignation. Kenny describes his shame when marched into the courtroom in a prison suit and chains in front of his friends and family and a courtroom of strangers; his complete humiliation as he is paraded throughout Jackson, naked and chained to several prisoners; his feeling of abandonment in his first day at Jackson Prison as he tears up a bedsheet in an effort to end his life; and his elation when declared a free man.

Deliberate Injustice is unlike all other stories about wrongful convictions, a compelling read from front to back cover.

Bob has stayed true to his roots as an author. Ned's is an autobiographical account of his involvement in the dangerous gambling subculture as a youth in 1970's Detroit. The Redemption of Mr. Ben is a powerful fictional account of life on the streets in downtown Detroit. Fantastic Sports Stuff is a unique compilation of fascinating stories and trivia related to Michigan sports teams and their history.

 Media/Testimonials

"For anyone who has lived in the city of Detroit, here are two books to put on your reading list. Bob Henige captures the spirit and the essence of this gritty town with his plots, but especially with his characters.  The Redemption of Mr. Ben and Ned's are stories of neighborhoods and the people who live there. The dialogue is crisp and true. Not always happy stories, but stories that get the reader thinking. He tells a tale that keeps you reading right to the end."

"Ned's gives readers a taste of characters and events experienced by a small sample of people in one blue collar town. In this case, Detroit is the setting where one neighborhood's players interact with each other, and their surroundings. Filled with humor, detail, and the raw language that shouts reality, the snapshot is also educational with its delivery by Henige. Easily related to, as a template, in countless cities across the country, to those familiar with the theme. To those unfamiliar, the book offers an interesting glimpse into the lives of small groups of gamblers, having fun while flirting on the edge."

"The Redemption of Mr. Ben is a rich tale of longing, as you progress through each character's concerns and experiences. The writing style is enjoyable, using italics that define each subject's self-thoughts, easily recongnizable. Through the struggles, heartaches, and aspirations, the portayals deliver details that spark images of familarity and realism. Dive in, and the story will have you wondering how it all comes together in the climax. The end triggers hope and encouragement, and quite possible in the reader's own personal redemtions for reconciliation and healing. This book will touch your soul."

"The Redemption of Mr. Ben is both entertaining and terrifying. What more can you ask for in a well-written novel?. As for Ned's.... was I there, Bob? You have captured the 1970's colloquialism spot on!"

"Henige scores, exhibiting his unique writing skill as he takes the reader through the lives of people we can all relate to. Set in downtown Detroit, The Redemption of Mr. Ben's characters are masterfully intertwined in this fast paced story of choices made, regrets and eventual salvation. First yearning and then seeking redemption of their own, events bring each individual together to a suspenseful climax. Another can't-put-it-down book from this new, talented author."

"Ned's is an endearing tale of a young man's adventures into the dark world of gambling in 1970's Detroit. The Kid's exploits will have you simultaneously laughing out loud and shaking your head in disbelief at his lucky breaks. The events and characters make this work a one of a kind, must-read story."

If your mother didn't read Ned's, then how did she know enough to warn you against guys who hang around pool halls and the race track? When I lived in Detroit, I never knew this underground gambling culture even existed. Although it reads like a movie plot, I personally know for a fact that the characters and incidents are real. It is truly a case of truth being stanger (and more fascinating) than fiction. It is nice to meet the characters without having the danger of actually associating with them, to laugh at what happnes without having a true regard for the actual life and death implications of some of the shenanigans. I never knew that the clean cut guy down the street whose "paycheck" was taken by his father, who doled out a meager allowance, was actually pretending to have a job and paying his father from his gambling proceeds. If you want to read about the world that existed unseen but right under your nose, read Ned's. You will remember it forever.
